Down the 1

Friday night was Santa Cruz.  It was just down Highway 1 about 45 minutes not much of a road trip.

Martha was coming by herself, she was staying in Aptos.  We were to meet her at the show.  It was a late show which always suits me fine.  We met out front once inside we automatically made a B line for the front of the stage, I followed in her wake.  By the time I raised my eyes we were directly in front of the stage being waved up by none other than the lovely Katrina and her Lane.  Katrina and her husband Lane live in Arizona, they were up to see Willie Nelson in Carmel on Thursday.

It was good to dance with Martha up front although my cowboy boots are not the best dancing shoes.  Despite their sasche-ability they are rather clunky.  My favorite dancing scenario is barefoot, I am the kind of girl that will ditch her shoes at a show as nasty as that is.  Cowboy boots impair my groove.  (planning an outfit around ballet flats next show.)

The whole band was there, plus Micah! Between Anthony and Tato was their tour sponsors photographer who apparently moonlights as a percussionist, imageSherm.  The band brought it hard right away, sounding very tight and just happy to be alive.  I got lost in the music immediately.

The band took a formal break and unfurled a whole new set list for act II.  Zack and I also took a break and when we came back Martha said goodbye and I walked her out to her car.  I snuggled up to zack and quickly decided to enjoy the rest of the show from the entry hall.  I had almost as good of a view and lots of room to dance.  Back there I saw Tim and Taylor and even danced a round with Robyn my Bay Area Realer.  Jess was looking radiant danced a little twist with her in the doorway.  I also danced a few dances with a cute young girl in a purple dress in her own wonderland.  It was a great night.  I even heard a fantastic song – and I thought I had heard all the new songs, called “For Me”.  I really loved it.  The whole show had kind of renewed my enthusiasm.  The energy from the stage was incredible at one point Micah abandoned the guitar to do some art in the second set-he became so inspired near the end of the show he crawled from where he was painting over to the drum set beating the drums from his knees in front with a pair of sticks. They ended the show with Cortez the Killer.

After the show we were both hungry so we stopped at the Dennys in Linda Mar before we went home around 3:30 AM.  In a few hours we would be up again headed the opposite direction on the 1, we were down to one.
